Oren triumphs as Ramfis in Pittsburgh Opera’s Aida

In a return to Pittsburgh Opera and celebration of Verdi’s bicentennial, American bass Oren Gradus has earned accolades for his performance of high priest Ramfis in Aida. “Oren Gradus sang very well as Ramfis, the high priest, offering strength and dignity,” wrote the Pittsburgh Tribune

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette added that Oren “showed off full-bodied vocals, particularly during strong off-stage singing in the judgment scene.” Conducted by Anthony Walker and costarring Latonia Moore, Carl Tanner, and Elizabeth Bishop, Aida runs through October 20.

Oren stars in Aida at Pittsburgh Opera

Bass-baritone Oren Gradus returns to Pittsburgh Opera October 12–20 for Verdi’s Aida. A former resident artist of the company, Oren sings the role of high priest Ramfis having formerly sung the part at the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma. He has also been heard in Verdi’s sumptuous Egyptian epic at the Metropolitan Opera in the role of the King.

A production from the Opéra de Montreal, Aida is directed by Crystal Manich and conducted by Anthony Walker. Oren stars opposite Carl Tanner as Radames, Latonia Moore as Aida, and Elizabeth Bishop as Amneris.

Oren Gradus gives a preview of the Lyric Opera Baltimore’s upcoming season

Oren Gradus takes to the Modell Performing Arts Center in Baltimore on September 22 to offer a taste of what’s to come in the Lyric Opera Baltimore’s 2013-14 season. The commanding bass-baritone will be part of the company’s open house in advance of his Baltimore debut in May 2014 with the company’s production of Nabucco, starring opposite Michael Chioldi.
